South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley delivered a warm, emotional announcement on social media on April 18 about a change to the team’s future. Wendale Farrow is joining the Gamecocks as a new assistant coach, and getting the new hire is akin to striking gold, she said.
“We struck gold in bringing Wendale into our Gamecock family,” she said. “He is an accomplished young coach who has been part of every aspect of successful programs, and that journey has made him a seasoned, complete coach from Xs and Os to player development to recruiting to community service. We’re excited to see the huge impact he will make on our team and Columbia.
” Farrow comes from the Southern Cal Trojans, where he coached for the previous four years. According to a South Carolina Athletics press release, Farrow has coached for 10 years and had six NCAA Tournament appearances.
While coaching the Trojans, they advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight, finished in the top five of a final AP poll for two seasons, and won the 2024 Pac-12 Tournament Title. While in Los Angeles for four seasons, six of his players were selected in the WNBA Draft, the press release noted.
