The Ohio State football program didn’t do a great job of recruiting under Justin Frye. That was the biggest flaw that the ex-offensive line coach had while he was with the Buckeyes. Last season, he clearly proved that he can develop guys after coaching a completely decimated unit to a national championship.
Still, Frye didn’t do a great job of identifying talent or recruiting it. During his tenure, the Ohio State Buckeyes didn’t land a single five-star recruit up front. He added a lot of three and four-star recruits to his recruiting classes. He also didn’t add a ton of players in general.
One of Frye’s old commits was former three-star offensive lineman Marc Nave Jr. Nave de-committed from the Buckeyes back in 2023 before committing to Kentucky. After playing for the Wildcats for just one season, he has decided to enter the transfer portal.

Nave didn’t play as a freshman, and it doesn’t look like he was slated to play as a sophomore, either. That’s why he has decided to transfer from Kentucky. It’s probably a good thing that he decided to de-commit from Ohio State because it’s unlikely that he would have seen the field there, either.
When Ohio State was recruiting him, they saw him as a project. It’s clear that he is even more of a project than what they thought. The Wildcats weren’t going to find a place for him on the field, either. Now, he will try to find somewhere that he can compete for playing time.
Hopefully, the one-time Buckeye commit can find a home that will allow him to develop into a solid player. He might be better off in the MAC or in the Sun Belt. Playing in either of those conferences might allow him to see the field sooner.
