“Not ideal” – Jordan Henderson frustrated by transfer to Wolves, ‘great player’ lost

Jordan Henderson has questioned Ajax’s decision to let Carlos Forbs join Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer window.

The Eredivisie side allowed both the 20-year-old and Steven Bergwijn join Wolves and Al-Ittihad respectively late in the window.

Ajax wanted to sign Southampton’s Kamaldeen Sulemana. The deal didn’t go through as they failed to file the paperwork related the transfer before deadline.

They are ninth in the table with seven points, trailing leaders PSV Eindhoven by 11 points, with two games in hand. At the weekend, Ajax settled for a 1-1 draw against Go Ahead Eagles, where they registered three shots on target.

After the tie, Henderson spoke to the reporters and his comments are relayed by Ajax Fanatics. The website says the 34-year-old England international ‘acknowledges’ his side are missing the attackers.

“They are two great players. Every team would have missed them, of course,” he said.

“But we still have other players, who are also good. Players who can create chances and are especially dangerous in the final third. We managed to do that against Fortuna, but not tonight. Hopefully we learn from it.”

The former Liverpool midfielder has been critical of the Amsterdam club’s decision to let Forbs and Bergwijn leave.

“It’s also not ideal to lose one or two of your wingers on the final day of the transfer market. We have lost quality,” Henderson explained.

“But with the guys who played today, it was possible. We have to help them get into one-on-one situations, but they didn’t bring anything. It’s not just the wingers, but it has to be better.”

Forbs joined Wolves on a loan deal with an obligation to buy if certain set conditions are met. An earlier report from De Telegraaf had stated Gary O’Neil’s side have to buy him for €13.5m if the attacker makes 10 starts this season.

Forbs has made two substitute appearances for the Premier League side so far.
