Derek Hough rush to the Hospital in a critical condition by CBS new

In December 2023, Derek Hough’s wife, Hayley Erbert, experienced a life-threatening medical emergency that brought their lives to a sudden halt. While on their “Symphony of Dance” tour in Washington, D.C., Hayley became disoriented after a performance and was rushed to the hospital.

Doctors diagnosed her with a cranial hematoma—a collection of blood within the skull caused by a burst blood vessel—and she underwent an emergency craniectomy to relieve pressure on her brain.

The couple had married just months earlier in August 2023, and their whirlwind tour had been a dream come true. Derek shared the news on social media, expressing gratitude for the medical team and requesting prayers and positivity during this challenging time.

Following the surgery, Hayley faced a long road to recovery. Derek reported that she was doing well but still had another surgery ahead to insert a skull implant to replace the piece removed during the craniectomy. The couple postponed the remainder of their tour to focus on her healing.

In the months that followed, Hayley made a remarkable recovery. By May 2024, she triumphantly returned to the stage, celebrating the end of the dance tour in San Diego. She expressed gratitude for the support she received and reflected on the challenges she overcame.

The experience deeply impacted both Derek and Hayley. They are now working on a documentary to share their journey, aiming to inspire others with their story of resilience and hope.

The ordeal also brought the Hough family closer together. Derek’s sister, Julianne Hough, put aside any differences to support her brother and his wife during this crisis. She emphasized the importance of family and the strength found in unity during difficult times.

Through this harrowing experience, Derek and Hayley have emerged stronger, with a renewed appreciation for life and the power of love and support.
