Netflix future King Crimson in their new movie check in
As of March 24, 2025, there is no evidence to suggest that Netflix is producing a movie about King Crimson. However, the band celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2022 with the release of the documentary “In the Court of the Crimson King: King Crimson at 50.” Directed by Toby Amies, the film offers an intimate look into the band’s history, featuring interviews with both current and former members, including Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Bill Bruford, and Tony Levin.
The documentary delves into the band’s evolution, their impact on music, and the personal stories of those involved. It premiered at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival in March 2022 and received positive reviews for its candid portrayal. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 95% approval rating, with critics praising it as “as good as rock documentaries get.”
Following its premiere, the documentary was released on various streaming platforms, including Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV, making it accessible to a global audience.
Regarding the band’s future, King Crimson concluded their touring activities in 2021. Robert Fripp cited practical reasons, such as the advancing age of members and increased touring costs during the pandemic, as factors influencing this decision. However, he did not explicitly announce the band’s disbandment, leaving room for potential future projects.
In 2024, former members Adrian Belew and Tony Levin, along with guitarist Steve Vai and drummer Danny Carey, formed a supergroup to perform King Crimson’s 1980s repertoire. This initiative received Robert Fripp’s blessing, indicating a continued, albeit limited, engagement with the band’s legacy.
In summary, while there is no Netflix-produced movie about King Crimson, the 50th-anniversary documentary provides a comprehensive insight into the band’s legacy. The band’s touring activities have ceased, but select members continue to celebrate and perform their music, ensuring that King Crimson’s influence endures.
