LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A grieving father whose son was gunned down in Old Louisville last week wants the killer brought to justice, and he’s offering a substantial reward to make it happen.
Tim Berry was waiting for his 15-year-old son, Timothy, to meet him at the corner of South Fifth and St. Catherine streets last week to grab some money for a store run. That’s where he last saw his son’s location on the Live 360 app before his messages went unanswered.
When Berry saw flashing police lights nearby, he learned the heartbreaking news: his son, Timothy Berry, had been shot and killed just a block away near South Third and St. Catherine streets around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 16.
“There’s no words … there’s no words,” Berry said.
Louisville Metro Police responded to reports of gunfire and found the teen lying in the street. He was rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition, but did not survive.
“I’m really just trying to stay positive and remember the good times we had with him,” Berry added.
Timothy, a sophomore at Jeffersontown High School, enjoyed kickboxing and had only moved to the area with his family in March.
“Naturally, when I think of him now, I think of how he was taken from us,” Berry said.
Now, in a desperate search for answers, the family is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Timothy’s shooter. Louisville Police also urge anyone with information to come forward.
“Just help us find these guys,” Berry pleaded.
Residents in the Old Louisville neighborhood are concerned about the recent surge in violence. Glenn Fitzsimmons, who lives in the area, said he’s witnessed the transformation firsthand.
“Louisville is not any different from any of these other big cities I’ve been in, and it’s turning into a city of crime,” Fitz Simmons said.
Fitz Simmons, who encountered Berry shortly after the shooting, offered him words of comfort.
“I just said, ‘Remember, Jesus is with you,'” he said.
Berry has a message to other parents in the wake of his son’s murder.
“Keep your kids close,” he said. “I mean, you can only keep them so close. God knows I tried.”
At this time, police have not released any details about potential suspects. Anyone with information is urged to call the anonymous tip line at 574-LMPD.
